C3D software

Most major motion capture companies support the C3D file format. The C3D file format description has been made publicly available and is detailed at the c3d web site together with sample C3D files and data access tools. Motion Lab Systems provides tools that allow any user to edit, view, print and access data directly within a C3D file.

The C3D file format standard provides a convenient and efficient format, storing both 3D coordinate and numeric data for the measurement trial, with all the parameters that describe the data, in a single file. The ability to store a multitude of information about the data is the feature that sets the C3D format apart from every other biomechanics format. The C3D file stores common parameters that describe the 3D data and then allows the users to define, generate, and store within the file any number of user or lab defined data items so that anyone opening the C3D file can access them.

C3Deditor - A sophisticated C3D file editor for any 32-bit Windows environments. It will open any C3D file and allows the user complete editing control over the file data and parameter contents and additionally includes many useful features such as analog and 3D data filtering, 3D interpolation, data re-sampling and a sophisticated batch mode that can completely automate many repetitive editing operations.

C3Dserver - A free software development kit that enables the user to quickly and easily write programs that access C3D files in almost any language from Visual Basic, MATLAB, C++, C# and Java. The C3Dserver comes with several sample applications (including sample source code) that make it easy to start writing software that accesses C3D data. Supplied as a completely functional free evaluation application with a high speed version available for purchase.

MLSviewer - Another free application for viewing the contents and structure of C3D files that allows the user to open any valid C3D file and view data within the file. The MLSviewer is an essential tool for anyone who regularly works with C3D files. Motion Lab Systems is committed to supporting the C3D file format within its own products and supporting all C3D file users by providing quality tools that make the C3D file format easy to assess and use.

RData2 - An application that extracts data from C3D files and creates ASCII text files that can be easily accessed. This application can be either run as a standard GUI, user controlled program or can be used as an automation resource from within other applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Visual Basic etc. The standard application interface includes a batch mode that can automate the extraction of select ASCII data values from thousands of C3D files in less than an hour.

ReportGenerator - Developed for files that contain kinematic variables (as calculated by Plug In Gait, OrthoTrack etc), this application can extract the kinematic variables and graph them to produce a standard clinical report from the data. In addition, ReportGenerator can generate GCD (Gait Cycle Data) files for compatibility with Vicon Clinical Manager and other applications that support the CAMARC GCD/DST ASCII data formats.
